How We Test

How We Test Walking Pads and Under-Desk Treadmills

Every rating on TrackTrekkers comes from hands-on testing in my own home office — not from a spec sheet. Here’s exactly how it works.

We Buy What We Test

Every product reviewed on this Site is purchased at retail price. No manufacturer sends us free units, and no brand pays for placement or a guaranteed ranking. If a brand ever sends a unit for consideration, we disclose it clearly in that specific review — but our rating is never contingent on it.

Testing Duration

Each walking pad or treadmill is used for a minimum of three weeks, averaging 45–60 minutes per day during real work-from-home sessions, plus dedicated walking time outside of work hours.

What We Measure

  • Noise: We measure decibel levels at 1.5 mph, 2.5 mph, and max speed using a calibrated decibel meter placed three feet from the unit.
  • Surface performance: Every pad is tested on both hardwood floor and medium-pile carpet to check stability and noise differences.
  • Fit across body types: Two testers — one at 5’6″ / 140 lb and one at 6’1″ / 195 lb — use every pad to capture the experience across different heights and weights.
  • App and connectivity: Where a companion app exists, we use it on both iOS and Android for at least five sessions.
  • Long-term durability: Pads that stay in our rotation for six months or more are flagged, and we update the review if any issues appear after extended use.

Our Promise

If we wouldn’t recommend a product to a friend, it doesn’t appear on our “best of” lists. We flag flaws honestly, including on products we otherwise like, and our affiliate links never influence our rankings.
